Safely Removing Gel Nail Polish and Dip and Buff Acrylic

Safe removal

Removal of Gel Polish or Dip and Buff is not as quick as removal of normal polish—think about how much longer it has lasted so the removal process will take longer. This is perfectly normal so don’t be tempted to rush as that is when damage can be caused to the nails.

You can have your Gel Polish or Dip and Buff removed as part of your next manicure at Daisy Nails. The Gel Polish or Dip and Buff will be removed using acetone and your nails will either be wrapped or soaked in a bowl to remove the polish.

If you are removing your Gel Polish or Dip and Buff and not having another colour applied, you will receive a mini manicure following the removal process to ensure you leave the salon with healthy natural nails.

Home removal

Sometimes you may prefer to remove at home. This is ok as long as you follow this advice. Do not try to rush and never pick or peel your polish or acrylic overlay as this will damage your nails.

First of all you need to break the seal on your nails. With a 180/240 grit file, gently buff the surface of the nail so changing the look from shiny to a dusty, dull nail. You are removing the top layer of top coat to allow the acetone to penetrate the Gel Polish or Acrylic underneath.

Now for removal. Soak the cotton pad on the removal wrap with acetone. Next place the cotton pad onto your nail and wrap using the foil. If you wish you can place your hands under a hot water bottle as heat helps the process. You can also remove the polish or acrylic by soaking your nails in a bowl of acetone (make sure the bowl is not plastic). Place the bowl with the acetone in into a larger bowl filled with warm water to add heat. Now relax for 10 mins (whichever method you choose). The acetone will begin to soften the Gel Polish or Dip and Buff Acrylic.

After 10 mins (more than 10 mins and the gel or acrylic starts to re-harden) unwrap the wraps or remove your hands from the acetone. Using a birchwood stick gently scrap away any loose polish or acrylic. At this stage do not be tempted to force off any polish or acrylic which is not soft and loose as this will damage the nail. Now rewrap the nails (adding more acetone to the pads if needed) or put your nails back into soak.

Repeat the process every 10 mins until all the polish or acrylic has been removed. This can take 30 mins (if not more) so don’t be tempted to rush. Put your feet up and relax.

After you have removed all the polish or acrylic from your nails, give your hands a good wash to remove the acetone. Throw the wraps away, or if soaking in a bowl, allow the acetone to evaporate or soak it up with kitchen towel and throw it away. Do not pour it down the sink.

If you wish to file your nails, use a 240 grit file although they will be filed as part of your next manicure. Put on lots of cuticle oil to rehydrate the nail and apply hand cream.

And then start thinking about what colour, glitter, design you will have next!
